Brian May Guitar Strap for the Red Special

This guitar strap, which we named LEGEND BM BOHEMIAN, has a fascinating story behind it that we’d love to share with you:

This strap is a recreation of the one worn by the legendary musician Dr. Brian May alongside his iconic Red Special guitar.

Here’s the short version of the story behind this replica:

On August 9, 2018, we received an email from our U.S. distributor with the subject line: "Strap Idea". It said: "Hi guys - a U.S. distributor noticed that the straps used in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody don’t resemble Brian May’s original strap. Can you recreate them?"

Our answer was a clear YES.

There isn’t much history behind the strap, but it became iconic after Queen's 1985 Live Aid performance at Wembley, along with the Red Special guitar.

The strap in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody wasn’t recreated accurately, which motivated us to take on the challenge of replicating it based on a few old, low-quality photos.

Forum discussions suggest that the original strap was lost, stolen, or disappeared. We couldn’t find much written about it, but we believe it might have been a regular belt turned into a guitar strap.

So, we did the same. We adapted our RAS system for better adjustment and added holes to attach the guitar.

An interesting detail is that Dr. May used electrical tape to keep the “Slide” in place. We replaced the tape with elastic bands, which can be removed or replaced depending on the musician’s preference.

When we finished the recreation, we sent the prototype to the U.S. for evaluation. Soon after, at a promotional meeting, Dr. Brian May saw the replica and said: “Wow, I haven’t seen this strap in ages!”

This was a huge achievement for us. This year, celebrating our 10th anniversary, we’ve decided to bring this replica to fans of Queen, Dr. Brian May, and the Red Special.
